A Prayer for Ash Wednesday
Added about 4 years ago by Graham Turner
A prayer by #BookOfTheMonth author Graham Turner for Ash Wednesday.
We are marred by the madness of contemporary living
and brought low by the strength of our rebellion.
We are tired and exhausted
by resisting the brutal forces of egos taken too seriously:
mine; ours; theirs; and of nations across the world.
Create clean hearts.
Renew right spirits.
Open closed minds.
We are ready to embark on your plan for fasting,
as we loosen the chains of justice
and let the oppressed go free.
This is the day of salvation.
This is the acceptable hour.
Have mercy on us, according to your bond of love.
Amen.
For over thirty years, Graham Turner has served in a variety of parishes, mostly in urban neighbourhoods. Through community enterprises and businesses he has worked tirelessly to help overcome social injustice while also exploring a range of Christian traditions to help deepen his own faith as well as that of others. After an initial engineering apprenticeship and obtaining an electronics degree, he studied theology to enter the Anglican ministry. He is now a full-time chaplain at a public-sector prison in the North West of England.
